The Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort is an oasis of tranquil luxury hidden in the pristine nature of the Kassandra peninsula in Halkidiki, Northern Greece. Miraggio is situated at the southeasternmost tip of the peninsula surrounded by pine tree mountains and the aquamarine waters of the North Aegean Sea. When we first arrived by car at Miraggio on a rainy day in early September (there was glorious sunshine throughout our stay though), we were simply blown away by the size and elegance of the resort.
There are a total of 300 rooms and suites at Miraggio overlooking either to the Aegean Sea or to the gardens, 250 of the rooms are suites and 48 of which provide guests with their own private swimming pool. You can’t go wrong with any of the rooms, as even the standard rooms are exceptionally nice, but if you are looking to treat yourself, I can highly recommend upgrading to a Junior suite. This is our Double room with a garden view. Stunning, right?
A lavish dining experience
At Miraggio guests can dine at the buffet Kritamo restaurant or choose any of the three à la carte restaurants (Portofino Italian restaurant, Toroneo sea food restaurant and Oasis pool restaurant) around the hotel. During our 4-day stay, we enjoyed our breakfast and dinner at the Kritamo restaurant.
There was a variety of food to indulge in, the food quality was excellent and there were no queues. In the mornings we enjoyed an incredible breakfast buffet with egg omelettes, pancakes, a selection of cheeses, crispy bacon and cured meats, smoothies and yogurt with fresh fruits, bread and pastries, as well as bottomless filtered coffee and freddo espressos. Who doesn’t love a lavish hotel breakfast on holiday?
As we were booked on half-board, we enjoyed our dinner at Kritamo, too. On one night there was a Cretan cuisine theme and on our last day there was a theme inspired by the Caribbean. All dishes were mouth-watering!
For those with a sweet tooth, the desserts at Kritamo are irresistible!
On our last night, I asked the Head Chef Konstantinos Chatzipanagiotou to gather his brigade for a group photo. Here’s the team of cooks preparing all these delicious meals for the hotel’s demanding clientele!
At the Kritamo buffet restaurant there is a kid’s buffet with small tables and chairs. Highchairs (wooden and plastic) are available around the restaurant.
A dive into the seawater swimming pools
No matter what you look for in a vacation, whether it’s taking a swim in the pool, relaxing on the beach with a good book, getting a massage in the spa, or being active at Miraggio your needs will be met. The sheer size of the resort means it never feels crowded and you can always find a sunbed by the pool or the beach.
There are 4 seawater, heated swimming pools, including a dragon’s foot-shaped kids’ pool and a pool for adults only, which is a perfect Instagram spot.
“By next year, Miraggio aims to have all private pools heated, too,” explains Mrs Vivi Vragkou, Director of Sales & Marketing at Miraggio. Vragkou has 27 years of experience in the travel and hospitality industry and in July 2015 she started her position at Miraggio when the resort was still under construction. “I was the second person to be employed after the General Manager. When Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort opened its doors, 400 personnel worked together to create memorable experiences for our guests. We succeeded in our goal and this is proven by our immense positive comments and feedback from our guests as well as our repeated guests already,” says Vragkou.
A walk on the awarded beach and marina
The sandy and pebbled beach is awarded with a Blue Flag, a world-renowned eco-label trusted by millions of people around the globe. The beach in front of Miraggio is a combination of pebbles near the shore and fine sand where the sunbeds and umbrellas are. Philippos liked to collect rocks and play with the sand under our umbrella.
Many of our friends in Finland own a yacht. So, I am writing about this to let them and the world know about the first-class private Marina Miraggio. Surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Aegean, Marina Miraggio is an innovative, environmental friendly and top-notch service haven for sea fans. Marina Miraggio is one of Greece’s most technologically advanced marinas awarded with the Golden Greek Hospitality Award 2017. It has the capacity to accommodate 81 yachts up to 40m offering a wide range of services including round-the-clock security and manning.
The tranquil thermal spa
Miraggio Thermal Spa is the only thermal spa in Halkidiki with healing water rich in iodine content ideal for rehabilitation, preventive medicine and treatment of the circulatory, respiratory, nervous, and musculoskeletal and digestive systems. “Miraggio Thermal Spa is unique because it combines three elements: Wellness, Thermal and Thalasso. This combination is exceptional not only in Greece but in the Balkan area, too” says Mrs Vragkou.
The first visit to the spa is free for guests. Unfortunately, even though I was looking forward to it especially since I suffer from scoliosis and back pain, I regret not being able to find the time to visit the spa. Four days is simply too short of a stay in order to experience everything Miraggio has to offer. We must visit Miraggio again for a longer stay. That’s a promise!
A fun experience for kids
We spent our time walking around the property with Philippos and playing at the Kids Planet area, a playground full of toys for the hotel’s little guests to enjoy. Even though we didn’t use the Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort’s childcare services, it is worth mentioning that there are four indoor and outdoor facilities for toddlers, children and teens (from 4 months to 12 years old) supervised by qualified and experienced professionals.
Around the property there are countless spots to enjoy time with your kid. We loved this giant chess board that Philippos learnt the name of the pieces and loved to move them around.
There is a green, well-groomed lawn so that children and adults alike can run barefoot on! Philippos loved to run back and forth.
Last but not least, the service at the Miraggio was outstanding throughout our stay. From the warm welcome we encountered at the reception during checking in, to the housekeeping and maintenance, to all of the wait staff at the restaurants, it was clear Miraggio has made customer service its top priority. d “I’d love for Miraggio to enter the luxury category as a destination known by its brand name and all the unique elements it offers; not only as a typical ‘sea, sand, sun’ model of vacation associated with Greece,” says Vragkou.
Miraggio offers free transfer from the Thessaloniki International Airport to all guests booking on the hotel’s website. In addition, Miraggio gives the possibility to approach by a helicopter if you wish to make a grandiose entrance as well as approach by boat thanks to the fabulous Miraggio Marina. Check out the Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort website and book your room now! Remember that October is still a holiday month with a current temperature of 20°C and sea temperature around 21°C.
