My Evento Awards 2017 style: Cocktail dress vs. Jumpsuit

I have been honoured to be a judge at Evento Awards since the first year the competition was initiated. Evento Awards celebrates excellence in the event and hospitality industry in Finland. This year Evento Awards had its fourth edition with two brand new categories (Best Industry Influencer and Best Fair). The Evento Awards 2017 Ceremony and Gala took place on April, 27 at Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki, Finland.

The Evento Awards invitation we received stated the dress code: ‘Party Dress with a touch of bling’. For special occasions, I always find it a great opportunity to add a brand new outfit to my wardrobe. This year, I visited Moda Bronco store is Itis to check out garments suitable for the occasion. I have stumbled upon Moda Bronco’s facebook page earlier this year and I liked what I saw. So, I headed up there in search of the perfect outfit. I tried on several outfits with the help of CEO Mia Hanninen and the helpful ladies. The selection and the brands at Moda Bronco was immense and I wish I had more special events to attend in order to get to wear more dresses. However, I managed to narrow down my picks to the three options shown below. Because I was conflicted I even made a Facebook post to ask which outfit I should wear on the Evento Awards gala.

What outfit do you think I chose? What do you think suits me best? 1, 2, or 3?

Option 1. Striped Satin Dress by Rinascimento

Rinascimento is an Italian clothing brand dedicated to those ‘who want to share the passion of beautiful things, done with care, made with love’.

This lovely flower shaped dress in striped satin features shiny details and piping and micro-mesh insert on the neckline. I love the full skirt with soft folds and the teardrop opening in the neckline. At Moda Bronco, the day I went for a fitting there was only a large size available (the one I’m wearing in the photo) but I could tell that if I had my size there to try it would be a better-fitted bodice.

Option 2. Floral-inspired Fuchsia Dress by Joseph Ribkoff

Joseph Ribkoff is one of the leading designers and brands in the Canadian fashion industry for nearly 60 years and over 64 international markets.

This fitted sheath dress designed by Joseph Ribkoff for the Spring 2017 Collection. The dress has knee-length hemline, a floral-inspired pattern and it comes with square split neckline with a metallic accent. In addition, this garment has rear-zip closure and pleated accents over its bodice in biased arrangement. I felt so comfortable wearing this garment, the fabric was soft and hugging my body beautifully, accentuating my waist and figure perfectly.

Option 3. Chic jumpsuit by Vera Mont

Vera Mont is a German brand under Betty Barclay that is divided into the Vera Mont Collection that focuses on ‘desk to dinner’ dresses and Vera Mont Soirée that offers gowns for gala occasions as well as modern cocktail dresses for special events.

This head-to-toe, all-in-one garment impresses with a soft flowing quality, which playfully emphasises the female figure and gives a comfortable feeling when wearing it. This chic overall is delighted with loosely falling bat sleeves and gem stones on the neckline.

And the winner is…

This elegant Vera Mont jumpsuit has become my new wardrobe staple! A jumpsuit creates a striking look that moves beyond a simple dress or pants and top combo, and into more fashionable territories. For the beauty of this piece is a reflection of its wearer, and I felt comfortable, radiant and powerful wearing it. I’ve completed my look with GUESS heels, a clutch bag and a few jewellery such as my GUESS watch and a ring. My hair and eye make-up was done by the full of energy Marja Brink at Marilyn hair and make-up salon.

Against popular vote, I trusted my instinct and decided to wear this Vera Mont jumpsuit at Evento Awards 2017! Wearing a jumpsuit to a cocktail party is without a doubt making a statement. When attending formal occasions, women often fall into the mindset of thinking that a dress is their only option. Most often settling for a little black dress. While a dress may be the ‘safe’ choice for dressing appropriately, it will rarely have the same impact as a jumpsuit.

Jumpsuits can be just as beautiful and polished as a dress while offering an out-of-the-box wow factor. Choosing to wear a dressy jumpsuit to a next formal might be stepping out of many women’s comfort zone, yet if you choose a sleek and well-tailored style that flatters your figure and add some simple, chic accessories, you are scoring high on elegance!

According to Vogue, in their article How The Jumpsuit Supplanted The Cocktail Dress, even the dress code tsars at Royal Ascot as part of this year’s Style Guide “officially welcome the jumpsuit as an acceptable item of clothing for the Royal Enclosure”.

What about you? Would you wear a dressy jumpsuit to a cocktail party?
