Whenever I want a fulfilling yet refreshing lunch before a meeting or when going out with a friend, I choose healthy, nutritious salads packed with crunchy vegetables loaded with fiber and vitamins and topped with protein such as salmon, chicken or eggs.
A couple of weeks ago, we decided to visit Eat Your Greens! -a healthy, fast-food restaurant- that opened its doors in Kluuvi shopping center in downtown Helsinki offering delicious and healthy salads, raw cakes and smoothies. From the Eat Your Greens! menu you can choose amongst 6 salads inspired by certain culture or you can completely customize and tweak your salad by choosing the ingredients to your liking. It’s very simple, you just choose one of the recommended 6 salad bases and then add 4 main toppings or create your own salad from scratch! Healthy dressings, such as avocado yogurt, orange vinaigrette, balsamic vinaigrette, chipotle vinaigrette, chilli hummous, tahini-harissa yogurt, and coconut lime, can help elevate your tasty salad. All dressings are made in the restaurant and are vegan, the yogurt used is plant-based.
“Eat Your Greens! was created when we were facing with the same issue daily. When you’re on your lunch break and quickly trying to find something healthy and tasty to eat, it is difficult to find a restaurant in Helsinki that doesn’t put you in a food coma. So we decided to create one!” explains entrepreneur Joni Alanko, founder of the Eat Your Greens!-concept. “The Eat Your Greens! concept is still evolving. We are going to introduce more smoothie flavors and organic coffees. Also, we are currently expanding. We will open up a new location in Tampere at Ratina shopping center in spring 2018 and another one in Helsinki in autumn 2018,” he adds.
During our visit to Helsinki’s Eat Your Greens, we were served by the lovely ladies Sonja and Nea who knew each other since high school and worked well together serving customers with smile on their face, explaining the menu and concept as well as answering to their questions.
My friend chose Hummus Mania with falafel, chilli hummus, bulgur salad, sweet potato, and pomegranate seeds. This salad is Nea’s favourite, which seems to be one of the customers’ favourite, too.
“My favourite is Quinoa Queen with our sweet potato falafel. And I love chilli, so my choices for dressings are chipotle-vinaigrette and tahini-harissa,” says Joni about his own favourite salad.
I tasted the Italian Vibes salad with lettuce, cherry tomatoes, marinated onions, red peppers, kalamata olives and instead of the recommended chicken/feta, I decided to add salmon. Sonja loves the Italian Vibes salad, too.
In addition to salads, the menu includes raw cakes and smoothies. My favourite ones are the coconut-matcha smoothie with a smooth, unforgettable flavour (dreaming about it!) and the nut-chocolate raw cake.
You can enjoy your meal at the restaurant at its 23 seats or order it for take away. The restaurant has a highchair for children, too.
