Miraggio: A luxury destination for families

The Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort is an oasis of tranquil luxury hidden in the pristine nature of the Kassandra peninsula in Halkidiki, Northern Greece. Miraggio is situated at the southeasternmost tip of the peninsula surrounded by pine tree mountains and the aquamarine waters of the North Aegean Sea. When we first arrived by car at Miraggio on a rainy day in early September (there was glorious sunshine throughout our stay though), we were simply blown away by the size and elegance of the resort.

The cure for spring fatigue!

Today, Sunday, the weather in Helsinki is finally sunny and beautiful. For the past months spring seems to never been coming to Helsinki. Finns have a term to describe this weather phenomenon where one day gives you hope of spring coming and the next takes you back to winter, it is called ‘takatalvi’. Another, intersting word Finns have is ‘kevätväsymys’ which describes perfectly the tiredness one feels around this time of year after a long winter. I have family living in Czech Republic and I remember they have a special phrase in their vocabulary which is ‘jarní únava’ (or spring fatigue, in English). They explain that by the end of winter, the body has exhausted all its stored energy, including vitamins and minerals from foods and sunlight. During the beginning of spring until the body is being recharged again, it undergoes a process of low energy. If you have been feeling similar low energy levels, know that it is normal and I have been feeling under the weather lately, too!

As Danish writer Baroness Karen Blixen stated “The cure for anything is salt water – sweat, tears, or the sea”. So, I decided to energize myself by a walk on the beach! We headed with my partner to the Hietaniemi beach in our neighbourhood Töölö for a walk. The air was fresh and the sun was shining. The beach was covered by snow and the sea water was still frozen! Welcome to Finland!

I took my NOKIA Lumia 800 with me to listen to music with walking on the beach. Through Nokia Music you can find My music, Mix radio, Mp3 store, and Gigs categories. Mix radio gives you the possibility to stream hours of your favourite music for free without any subscription.

Through the Nokia Music application I can discover gigs happening near you by my favourite artists.

The NOKIA Lumia 800 strikes the perfect balance between business and leisure features! By the way, the Lumia 800 has an excellent music quality, the sound does not get distored even outdoors! Get your own Lumia 800 from the renewed Elisa Shop in FORUM for only 349€ or 14,60€ per month!

Become a Halloween Superhero!

I haven’t really celebrated Halloween as an adult probably because I’m a Greek Orthodox, or actually I might suffer from Samhainophobia (fear of Halloween) or maybe because it is yet another Americanised holiday..

However, everyone hides a kid inside them and I most definitely love to have fun. I walked into Buttericks in Forum and I let myself go! This post is the outcome of some of the most hilarious moments throughout this time I’m writing for FORUM!

Take a look! Here is the secret daughter of Lady Gaga and Liam Gallagher from Oasis! Rumours say she lives in Helsinki!

And here is a female superhero, The Invisible Woman! I have always been fascinated with myths and creatures or humans that possessed magical powers. If I would have one special power that would definitely be invisibility!

If you had a magic power, what would it be?

The Invisible Woman wears her invisibility cloak and disappears from sight when need be!

Happy Halloween!

Hintasirkus campaign in FORUM!

The Hintasirkus campaign has started in FORUM yesterday and lasts until Sunday! Lots of great offers and discounts in all stores under FORUM’s roof!

On my way home after a meeting with Marketing manager of FORUM, Mrs. Pia Rosvall, who was also dressed in bright orange (colour of Hintasirkus), I met a young man holding a Hintasirkus bag on the tram. I started chatting with him and I asked if I can take a photo of him! He was surprising as Finns usually don’t talk to strangers asking to take photos of them on public transportation.. But, come on, I’m not a Finn, so that’s always my alibi! 😉

So, Reetu allowed me to take a photo of him and showed me what he has bought.

Reetu got this white pair of shoes from Stadium for only 40€!!!

Great offers tomorrow as well in all stores in FORUM and in Stadium! Water- and windproof jackets and trousers made of TCS Water 3000 material for both men and women available in all sizes for only 59, 90€!

Sporty for life with Piruetti!

In Piruetti FORUM, dance enthusiasts professional skaters or amateur gymnasts find high quality products. I had a chance to meet with one of the sales ladies, Veera Vainio, who has been working for 3 years in Piruetti FORUM. Veera is a dance teacher for different dance styles; namely, ballet, show- and modern dance. Veera helped me pick up a couple of cute outfits for my dancing endeavors!

Check me outside Piruetti store in my dancing outfits feeling the vibe.

In Piruetti, you will find clothes for ballet, skating, gymnasts, fitness, flamingo skirts as well as shoes for various dance styles in great prices!

Piruetti was founded in 1974 in Tampere –known as the ‘Manchester of Finland’ a former center of the Finnish textile industry– by dancers and entrepreneurs Tuula Heinivaho and Mirja Eljaala. The company quickly became Finland’s leading dancewear and sportswear brand using the French logo “La Pirouette”. Piruetti has also been awarded the “Strongest in Finland” certificate granted by Suomen Asiakastieto Oy – the leading provider of business and credit information in Finland.

Piruetti has been working closely with the Finnish Gymnastics Federation and the Finnish Figure Skating Association. It also sponsors Finland’s National Rhythmic Gymnastics and Aesthetic Group Gymnastics teams and individual athletes. “Our vision was to create a department store for active people that would provide exceptional quality dancewear with innovative design. I feel that we have succeeded. Nowadays we manufacture trendy, high quality fitness wear clothing for national teams’ gymnasts, dancers groups, theatre performers and pop artists,” says Heinivaho.

The company has wholesale customers in Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Estonia and Belgium and individual customers outside Europe in Japan, Hong Kong and Hawaii. “We know that it would be possible to expand our business abroad in bigger scale, but at the moment we are improving the availability of our products on the Internet,” Heinivaho adds.

Depending on the season, Piruetti employs a staff of 25-30 people many of whom are dance and sports enthusiasts. “Our young Finnish designers have background in sports. It is important that the designer knows how the clothes should work in practice. Our own staff helps testing and developing the materials and styles,” says Heinivaho proudly.

In FORUM Shopping Centre, the Ballerina & Piruetti shops came together and there you will find great sportswear and dancewear for yourself or your kids that practise sports or dance! Check out the season’s discounts and offers of last seasons products!

Get ready for your summer holidays!

I’m already on holidays but before I came to Greece, I visited Stadium in FORUM to equip myself with all the necessary beachwear! Fluo bikinis, flip-flops and colourful accessories!

The variety in Stadium is incredible! Swimwear for all tastes and body shapes.

For the fans of adventure, Stadium has occassionally offers in tents. I found this one in red for only 9,90€!

Also, great variety for swimwear for men. If you think your boyfriend or brother or even you (the male reader!) need a new pair of shorts or briefs, Stadium has something for you!

Enjoy your summer holidays!

An afternoon at the museum!

It’s a Saturday afternoon in Helsinki. It’s frosty cold outside, almost -15°C! I’m entering Forum. Finally, I can warm myself up. Kim is waiting for me by Spin FM’s dj booth. I’m 15 minutes late. “Let’s go to the art museum,” I say. We ask directions from the Infodesk. Two floors up from where we were standing, then outside, straight and turn left. Soon we arrive to the Amos Anderson Art Museum.

Amos Anderson Art Museum is the largest private art museum in Finland. The founder of the museum Amos Anderson (1878–1961) owned Finland’s largest Swedish-language daily Hufvudstadsbladet and has also been a generous patron of Finnish art and science. After Anderson’s death, his house was converted into a museum.

We take the elevator to the 6th floor where Sauli Miettunen’s sculputes were on display and then make our way down to Anderson’s private chapel and to the Constructors of Light (Valon rakentajat) exhibition, which features 1940’s and 1950’s art.

The permanent collection and the current exhibitions are rich and focus on 20th century Finnish art. The atmosphere in the museum is warm and cozy. If you want to spend a relaxed afternoon with your friends or family, come down to Forum and get in Amos Anderson Art Museum!

Stylish on the slopes!

A winter vacation at a ski resort in Finland is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Every year thousands of travelers from all over the world visit Finland in order to enjoy its pristine nature and the unusual natural phenomena, such as the Northern Lights, that create a unique backdrop for unforgettable winter adventures.

Snowboarding, downhill and cross-country skiing are great ways to explore nature. Husky, reindeer and snowmobile safaris in the wilderness are also sensational experiences.

But, before you head for Lapland or the ski resorts nearby Helsinki, you have to be prepared and well-equipped as temperatures might drop even at -30 C!

At the heart of Helsinki, in Intersport Forum winter sport enthusiasts but also beginners -like me!- can get their gear on for the perfect winter holiday! I love trendy designs and bright colors so I had to walk in and try the latest collection!

A ski suit can be a fashion statement as well. You can choose to go with bright fuchsia, green or fire red snow pants, jackets and goggles based on your personality. The possibilities are endless. No matter the color or pattern, each ski suit brings serves the simplest purpose: to make you stay warm, dry and safe but it’s up to you to bring out your personality by the choice of colors and patterns. Practicality but yet in style.

(Is that an avalanche? 😀 )

Now that I got my gear on from Intersport Forum, I’m ready to conquer the powdery slopes! Here I come! Beware!
