My Evento Awards 2017 style: Cocktail dress vs. Jumpsuit

I have been honoured to be a judge at Evento Awards since the first year the competition was initiated. Evento Awards celebrates excellence in the event and hospitality industry in Finland. This year Evento Awards had its fourth edition with two brand new categories (Best Industry Influencer and Best Fair). The Evento Awards 2017 Ceremony and Gala took place on April, 27 at Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki, Finland.

The Evento Awards invitation we received stated the dress code: ‘Party Dress with a touch of bling’. For special occasions, I always find it a great opportunity to add a brand new outfit to my wardrobe. This year, I visited Moda Bronco store is Itis to check out garments suitable for the occasion. I have stumbled upon Moda Bronco’s facebook page earlier this year and I liked what I saw. So, I headed up there in search of the perfect outfit. I tried on several outfits with the help of CEO Mia Hanninen and the helpful ladies. The selection and the brands at Moda Bronco was immense and I wish I had more special events to attend in order to get to wear more dresses. However, I managed to narrow down my picks to the three options shown below. Because I was conflicted I even made a Facebook post to ask which outfit I should wear on the Evento Awards gala.

Fashionstore Pop-Up in downtown Helsinki!

I have been blogging since 2003 and professionally since 2006. In 2010, I started blogging for FORUM Shopping Center and in 2012 I was chosen as the One-To-Watch winner from Finland to blog for the GUESS Global Access blog and a brand ambassador for GUESS Watches.

You can read my GUESS Global Access Blog posts here: ‘I love me’ – Exhibition and Trade Fair in Helsinki! / Weekend Away in Paris /Day to Night in Finland /Denim Style in Finland

This year I’m excited for the Fashionstore Pop-Up to open its doors in FORUM Shopping Centre! The store name is named after www.fashionstore.fi, which is a Finnish online store, launched in March 2010. At Fashionstore Pop-Up you will find a wide variety of accessories such as bags, belts, shoes and jewellery.

Denim style in Finland

Who doesn’t love a new pair of denim jeans even though you have a couple more in your wardrobe?! Denim is the number one choice for people all over the world. It has taken the world by storm since 1930’s and still continues to inspire.

Denim is the ‘A and Z’ of my wardrobe; it can easily be tuned up or down based on my needs and mood. I always choose my jeans based on how well they flatter my body type and match with my lifestyle. I personally value comfort, quality and style. I wear denim for a casual look, at work and a glam night out. The possibilities are endless.

This is my favorite denim look and my all-time-favorite GUESS watch. Here I wear a dark colored denim dress by GUESS, a multi-striped waistcoat with fur appliqué perfect for cold winter days and my favorite silver/rose gold GUESS Watch.

Denim should no longer be limited to casual settings or daywear; there are polished denim dresses that are adding extra elegance and femininity to fashion’s most worn staple.

Gok Wan exclusive collection only at Specsavers!

I have been in need of a visit to the optician to check my vision as well as looking for new glasses. Last week I visited Specsavers in FORUM, had my eyes checked and left with 3 pairs of glasses! This gorgeous red frames for a price of 99€ are my favourite ones!

Also, British fashion stylist Gok Wan has exclusively designed the GW collection for Specsavers. The GW collection of frames is now available in Specsavers store in Forum’s ground floor.

For my second pair of glasses, I chose the following frame in beige made by plastic with textured metal sides, that makes a real style statement and looks particularly good on darker skin. I am not particularly tanned and my complexion is quite fair and light but in combination with my dark brown hair this frame gives me the edge I want!

My third pair is these rectangular frames that are finished in black acetate for a soft touch with the GW insignia on the side.

These frames have a retro nostalgic feel to them and they are suitable for the office! They are also found in beige colour.

Nailed it!

Last week I went to Hiusfashion at Forum’s Kukontori and got myself a natural-looking French manicure ideal for the office. A fresh manicure helps you look clean and put-together.

Pinja Pellonpää is the ‘new’ Nail and Eyelash Extension Technician and Stylist of Hiusfashion in Forum. She has moved from the Ruoholahti Hiusfashion store to the one in Forum since the beginning of August.

We decided to go with a french manicure on my own nails.

Hygiene is very important. “I always sanitize the tools immediately after using them,” says Pinja.

Every nail technician has their own style and techniques. Pinja has strong attention to detail, she likes fancy glitter and elegant results for her new and loyal customers. Of course, you can also choose different nail stickers to add colour to your nail design!

In less than an hour, the final result was amazing! Check how stylish and elegant my nails look like!

Pinja did an amazing job fixing my nails with attention to detail and the necessary hygiene as well as friendly and warm service.

Welcome to Hiusfashion!

On February 1st Hiusfashion hair and nail salon opened its doors near FORUM’s Kukontori in Yrjönkäytävä! This is the third Hiusfashion salon owned by Satu Stefanovic and Nenad Stefanovic. The first store opened in Ruoholahti and the second one in Espoo. Having established a loyal clientele, entrepreneur and hair stylish Satu decided to open a third store with her husband in FORUM that bustles with passersby every day!

I got the chance to talk with Satu and get to know her story. Satu wanted to be a hairdresser since childhood. Then, she changed her mind and decided to study textile design but soon hairstyling won her over. She is obviously a creative person that likes to use her hands and a smart and hard-working entrepreneur who uses her brains!

Chryssa: Hiusfashion has its own loyal customers over all those years you are operating, why would new customers choose you?

Satu: My goal is to be there where there are lots of people, when people passing by and they can drop in. In Hiusfashion, we have non-stop available times without booking an appointment. We never overbook our book so that customers that easily drop in! People nowadays are working alot and they might have a 30-minute slot available that could use for having a haircut. We have received lots of positive feedback about this and we plan to keep it this way!

Satu and Nenad have been working hard to make the grand opening of Hiusfashion in FORUM in time and in style. FORUM’s new salon is “modern, stylish and cozy, not too much, not intimidating”, says Satu. Indeed the store looks classy and elegant and it feels welcoming.

Nenad Stefanovic is Satu’s business and life partner. Originally from Serbia, he came to Finland to work as a basketball coach. Serbia is a country with strong tradition in basketball.

Chryssa: There are many hair salons in the centre of Helsinki. How do you differentiate from the competition?

Nenad: The strategy we have been developing is that every customer is special! That’s why we are not afraid of competition. People are asking value for money and we are offering that. We are not trying to overcharge the customers and offer cheap service. We are insisting on service not selling, not putting shampoos under their nose. At the moment, Hiusfashion Forum has 10 stations, 5 hair stylists and colorists and 1 manicurist.

Antonio Flores belongs in the workforce of Hiusfashion Forum.

Chryssa: Antonio, tell me about your background? What made you become a hairdresser?

Antonio: I grew up in Ecuador, I remember when I was 6 years old cutting my sisters’ hair. My mother wanted me to work at the bank. I actually graduated as a public accountant but I hated. I was hairdressing without my mother knowing. Ecuador is a mucho culture and male hairdressers are not seen in a good light.

Chryssa: What actually brought to Finland, Antonio?

Antonio: Marriage! I met my husband 15 years ago in Colombia. I am 34 years old now..

(Note: Antonio is the partner of this year’s Presidential Election candidate Pekka Haavisto.)

Chryssa: I see, how long you have been working with Satu in Hiusfashion?

Antonio: I have been working with Satu for 1,5 years now. It is really fun working with her. She is a great boss! And our new Hiusfashion salon in FORUM looks fantastic!

Chryssa: What are the cultural differences you have identified being from Ecuador but living in Finland for a long time?

Male hairdressers have been around the world for a long time now, still in Finland it is not so common. Also, in Latin America, service is more personal. In Finland, I have customers that we have developed a close friendship and we talk about personal issues. But, I tell my customer if you want to talk to me, it is fine; if you don’t want to talk, no problem, just relax! And, lastly, the hairtypes are of course different in various countries. I have learnt to deal with those differences. Plus, most of my own customers are foreigners!

Discover your inner goddess!

I often say that ‘I’m citizen of the world’. I feel like a nomadic world traveler, who has finally settled in frozen and snowy Helsinki.

In Finland, having warm outerwear and headwear that make you stand out is paramount if you want to stay warm. In Ajatar Forum you will find amazing, high-quality insulated coats with fur details and headwear in affordable prices. Ajatar offers great discounts in a variety of coats and hearwear!

Ajatar’s philosophy is based on making every woman find their inner goddess and look stunning in a coat that represents their personality.

Here are my favourite pieces from Ajatar. This is a warm and well-insulated long jacket up to the knee from Nobis Canada paired with a cute hat in beige with a fur detail on top

Below I think I look like a Russian Grand Duchess!

Ajatar offers a great variety in winter accessories and lovely hats! You can never have too many! Some of the best colours and brands can be found below!
