Insights from Fujitsu Forum 2014

One of the brightest minds in today’s IT world is Dr. Joseph Reger, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with various Fujitsu entities since 2002. As of August 1, 2014 he was appointed as CTO for Fujitsu’s Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) region. I had the pleasure of listening to Dr. Reger for the first time four years ago and ever since I always make sure to get a front seat to attend his keynotes. This year the opportunity to listen to his brilliant thoughts filled with unique insights and humour happened during the Fujitsu Forum 2014 in Munich, Germany.

On Day 0, during the press conference, Dr. Joseph Reger spoke about the Internet of Things and Digital Transformation and distinguished between ‘Digital Business vs. Digitalized Business‘. For instance, Starbucks offers an analog product (coffee) with a number of digitalized services developed around the analog product which include wifi, online meetings, big data analysis, products will become services.

Dr. Reger’s contribution in developing Fujitsu’s Cloud Computing Strategy is instrumental and in currently he is focusing on the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 topics. Industry 4.0 is a term coined in Germany but it has rapidly spread in other nations to be defined as such ‘Industry 4.0 is part of the entire Digital Transformation value chain using IoT technology (not industry automation)’ In German, he term ‘Industrie 4.0’ refers to the fourth industrial revolution, a new wave of technological changes that will decentralize production control and trigger a paradigm shift in manufacturing. The first industrial revolution was the mechanization of production using water and steam power, it was followed by the second industrial revolution which introduced mass production with the help of electric power, followed by the digital revolution, the use of electronics and IT to further automate production. The cure for spring fatigue!

Today, Sunday, the weather in Helsinki is finally sunny and beautiful. For the past months spring seems to never been coming to Helsinki. Finns have a term to describe this weather phenomenon where one day gives you hope of spring coming and the next takes you back to winter, it is called ‘takatalvi’. Another, intersting word Finns have is ‘kevätväsymys’ which describes perfectly the tiredness one feels around this time of year after a long winter. I have family living in Czech Republic and I remember they have a special phrase in their vocabulary which is ‘jarní únava’ (or spring fatigue, in English). They explain that by the end of winter, the body has exhausted all its stored energy, including vitamins and minerals from foods and sunlight. During the beginning of spring until the body is being recharged again, it undergoes a process of low energy. If you have been feeling similar low energy levels, know that it is normal and I have been feeling under the weather lately, too!

As Danish writer Baroness Karen Blixen stated “The cure for anything is salt water – sweat, tears, or the sea”. So, I decided to energize myself by a walk on the beach! We headed with my partner to the Hietaniemi beach in our neighbourhood Töölö for a walk. The air was fresh and the sun was shining. The beach was covered by snow and the sea water was still frozen! Welcome to Finland!

I took my NOKIA Lumia 800 with me to listen to music with walking on the beach. Through Nokia Music you can find My music, Mix radio, Mp3 store, and Gigs categories. Mix radio gives you the possibility to stream hours of your favourite music for free without any subscription.

Through the Nokia Music application I can discover gigs happening near you by my favourite artists.

The NOKIA Lumia 800 strikes the perfect balance between business and leisure features! By the way, the Lumia 800 has an excellent music quality, the sound does not get distored even outdoors! Get your own Lumia 800 from the renewed Elisa Shop in FORUM for only 349€ or 14,60€ per month!
