Sushi after birth at last!

There are many opinions, truths and myths about eating sushi during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Cultural differences affect the consumption of sushi remarkably. The Japanese focus on the healthy properties of fish and recommend that you should eat fish regularly in order to increase your intake of DHA and other Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. However, in most European countries and in the USA, raw sushi is to be avoided due to the fact that certain types of fish may contain high levels of mercury, dioxins or other toxins, including tilefish, mackerel, fresh tuna, mahi-mahi, and shark. In reality – although contradictory – both perceptions are correct. So, what should expectant and breastfeeding mothers do?

Yves Rocher Spring News

On April 20 I was invited to the Yves Rocher Spring News event that took place in Gallery Kalhama & Piippo Contemporary. During the 2-hour event beauty editors and bloggers enjoyed a healthy breakfast and got introduced to the new Yves Rocher products for Spring 2012.

Liisa Sippola, Communications Manager of Yves Rocher Finland, mentions that Xavier Ormancey, Yves Rocher’s head of Research and Development, believes that at any age, the key to beautiful skin is intense hydration. This May a new range of innovative products called ‘Hydra Vegetal’ is released by Yves Rocher that hydrate the skin deeply while toning up fine lines and dry areas. Xavier Ormancey might be visiting Finland in the coming months, explains Liisa.

During the Yves Rocher Spring News event, a cosmetologist explained the importance of the 3-step facial skincare routine which involves cleansing, toning and moisturizing that is necessary in order to achieve the ultimate skincare results. I admit that often I skip the ‘toning’ step of the process and this is a key point in achieving a “glowing effect”.

On May 10th during the Ihana Helsinki! festival the Yves Rocher store in FORUM Shopping Centre will be open until midnight and customers will have the opportunity to receive a quick make-up session and the chance to participate to a 100€ worth of Yves Rocher products lottery! In addition, all customers will be given a 10% discount to all products.

Seven Art pop-up store in Forum!

Since February already and until the end of April on Forum’s Kukontori you will come across Seven Art’s pop-up store. I had the chance to meet and interview Riikka Yrjölä store manager of Seven Art store in Vantaa who is has been working for 10 years already in Seven Art and once in a while she is at Seven Art Forum.

As the term explains, pop-up store means a short-term sales space. “In the limited time that the Seven Art pop-up store will be open in Forum you can find spectacular giftware and beautiful pictures. We would like people to come and see our selection of trendy canvases and oil paintings in neutral colours and oriental style,” says Riikka.

The interior design of the Seven Art is clean and fresh that leaves room for the items to be showcased properly. What ideas for gifts does Seven Art offer, I ask. “Seven Art has a wide graphic art collection which are timeless gifts. Good quality framing can be found on our main store,” explains Riikka.

Seven Art is a family-owned business that has been since the very beginning of Forum’s existence.  The Seven Art store was amongst the firstcomers and stayed in the same place until today constantly developing and expanding. At the moment, there are 5 stores in Finland, in Helsinki in Forum, in Vantaa, in Espoo Matinkylä, in Kouvula as well as an outlet store in Pihtipudas.

Seven Art Forum concentrates in framing that is how the idea of having a pop-up store was initiated in order to showcase the giftware.

Christmas is around the corner!

The holiday season is here! FORUM is decorated and the cafes have started offering glögi! Glögi is the Finnish word for ‘mulled wine’ which is usually wine red combined with cinnamon and almonds and typically served warm. It is the traditional drink of Christmas and one of my favourites!

Apart from the X-mas vibes around Forum, stores have started getting ready for the holiday season. New products have arrived at Yves Rocher! The Fleur de Noël collection for 2011 features Charming Spices candles that bring the spirit and warmth of Christmas to your home as well as fragrance sticks and home fragnances that can create a warm and romantic atmosphere during the cold winter nights.

This is an excellent idea for X-mas present for your friends! Also, I got a lovely hand cream from Yves Rocher because my hands are so dry during winter. The Fruit de Noël limited edition handcream is extremely moisturising, very light and with a sweet scent derived from the combination of orange, pergamont and graprfruit oils.

Lastly, another limited edition product for this season, is a collection of 3 mini-soaps in an ecological package that could be an ideal choice for a gift to a little or big girl! 🙂
